Image: Newsflash

Nigerians have been watching TV since forever. It started with local shows down to the foreign ones, we watched them all.

Before the advent of Zee World and Telemundo, we watched the telenovelas and followed up on the stories.
Telenovela is a type of limited-run serial drama originally from Spain and popular on Southeast Asian, Latin American, East Asian, South Asian, Arab World, Portuguese and Spanish television networks.
Telenovelas are different from US-style soap opera in that they rarely continue for more than a year. This makes them shorter than soap opera, but still much longer than serials
It was such an addiction that we even bought books that summarised the episodes for times when we missed the episodes due to NEPA or something. Good old days!
Here are some of the amazing telenovelas that kept us glued to our seats then.

1. Secrets of the Sand

Secrets of the Sand was Brazillian and was originally released in 1993. It told the story of twin sisters, Ruth and Rachel. A rich man falls in love with Ruth who truly loves him too, but he gets involved with Rachel, who’s after his wealth.
